Details: A small stone figure of a young boy standing in what looks like waves or clouds, holding onto a strap around a large turtle. The figure is carved from white stone, stained a dark grayish brown with black and reddish "veins". The bottom of the sculpture is textured, as though with a rasp and/or chisel.
This figure appears to be a depiction of the Chinese fairy tale "Bamboo and the Turtle". It is the story of a young boy who frees a "stone" turtle from his imprisonment in a temple. The turtle gives the boy a ride through the air to the beginning of time, where he introduces him to a dragon and a phoenix. On the return flight, the boy falls off, and wakes up in the temple. It is a tale that celebrates curiosity, courage and an appreciation for the natural world.
